Changing Currency

Unfortunately, there are no credit card facilities or places to change traveller's cheques from Delhi onwards for those coming on the 'Inner Himalayan' retreats. As Indian currency cannot be purchased outside of India, you will need to change your currency at Delhi airport. The 'State Bank of India' plus 'Thomas Cook' has exchange booths as you emerge through customs. They are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please change your currency there and ask for a printed receipt. For those undergoing a retreat by the Ganges, there are numerous money changing facilities at hand.

It's perfectly safe for you to carry cash on you but it's always wise to carry it in a money pouch attached to your waist. We can take care of any excess cash you prefer not to carry and give you constant receipts so you know your balance.

Necessary Items to Bring

It's essential to organize yourself before leaving home so your process will not be interrupted, especially if you're on an inner Himalayan retreat. The idea is to keep you as far away from 'civilization' as possible.

For our Himalayan retreats, it's at least a 20km - two hour round trip (may be even one day depending on what you've forgotten) for our staff to purchase whatever you might have neglected to pack - and we may not be able to get exactly what you need - if we can purchase it at all! So, try and complete this check list as even though there's a chance for last minute shopping in Delhi, if it's your first time in India, you're likely to be distracted by the sights, sounds and smells of this extraordinary and often bewildering city.
